The Best Restaurants Near Notre Dame in Paris

If you’re near the stunning Notre Dame in Paris and want to know where to eat, then read on. There are so many tourist traps around the Notre Dame cathedral, it’s hard to know where you won’t be ripped off! Luckily I’ve been living in Paris for 8 years and I know the area really well. My list has some suggestions that are less than a 10 minute walk away from the cathedral and serve great quality food.

Where to Eat Near Notre-Dame in Paris

All the restaurants below serve French cuisine. I’ve included various price points for all budgets. If you’re wanting different cuisines I’d advise walking a bit further out.

Where to avoid? I’d really avoid eating at restaurants along the Seine between the Pont Neuf and the Pont de l’Archevêché (next to the rear of Notre Dame).

La Rôtisserie d’Argent

Probably my favourite restaurant next to and with a view on Notre Dame, La Rôtisserie d’Argent is a fantastic traditional French bistro. Sister restaurant to the famous 1* Michelin Star restaurant, Le Tour d’Argent, La Rôtisserie is much more accessible and serves up French classics.

It’s as traditionally Parisian as it gets with red and white gingham table clothes and smartly dressed waiters. Famed for it’s rotisserie chicken, they also serve up some fantastic sharing steak, roast duck and other French classics (including some great eggs-mayo). Hungry for dessert? Try their incredible cheese platter served in-front of you from their cheese trolley!

Baieta

Baeita is a fantastic 1 Michelin star fine dining restaurant run by the talented Julia Sedefdjian. Dedicated to French Mediterranean cuisine with Italian influences peppered in, it’s a great restaurant to discover another part of France’s rich food history.

It’s tasting menus only at Baieta but for a Michelin starred restaurant, it’s surprisingly accessible. Week day lunch menus start at €60 and include 3 preciously cooked courses, snacks and intercourses. Their ‘bouillabaisse’ (a modern interpretation) is fantastic and a modern take on a pissaladière is refined and full of flavour.

La Petite Périgourdine

La Petite Périgourdine is a brilliant traditional French bistro located (literally) just down the road from the Panthéon and close to Notre Dame. Serving up classic, well done French dishes it’s a perfect spot to try traditional French food whilst exploring the Latin Quarter.

On the menu you’ll find hearty French classics that are very well prepared. Starters include French onion soup, foie gras and their home made country terrine. On the main side they’ve got an awesome steak tartare, confit duck leg and a classic French style roasted chicken.

Sorza

Sorza is a quaint little bistro located on the Île Saint-Louis. Nestled amongst plenty of very touristy restaurants, this bistro serves up some genuinely good and reasonably food. It’s small with around tables, it’s of course English speaking friendly and the service is great.

I’d suggest Sorza as a great option if you or your party don’t want to be overwhelmed with too many, adventurous options. It’s safe, simple yet honest food. Market fish fillets are cooked perfectly and served with a cream sauce and seasonal vegetables. Steak comes with a red wine sauce and roast potatoes – it’s the kind of cuisine that doesn’t have to be overcomplicated. Finally they’ve got a simple yet very good wine menu.

A.T

A.T is an incredible 1* Michelin star tasting menu restaurant. Located just off the River Seine, next to the Île Saint-Louis, it’s a great option if you’re feeling adventurous (and of course have the budget!).

Led by the very talented Atsushi Tanaka, the food has influences from Japan but still has a classical French backbone owing to his experience under Pierre Gagnaire. His tasting menus range from €85 at lunch to €180 for at dinner. The food is quite out there but if you love technique and intense, flavours, A.T is definitely worth a visit.
