Paris in April is incredible and for me, it’s one of the best months to visit. My guide will tell you everything you need to know about visiting the city of light in early Spring.
From what to do, what to wear and more importantly, what to expect, my guide will tell you everything. I’ve been living in Paris for over 8 years and I know the city really well.
How’s Paris in April?
Honestly, Paris in April is amazing. The city comes back to life after a long winter and the city’s boulevards turn into a sea of green as Spring kicks into life.
The café’s famous terraces fill up and there’s an incredible buzz in the air as Parisians know the long winter has finally come to an end.
Yep it’s one of my favorite times of the year. The change from Winter to Spring is really noticeable and the city really feels different from one week to the next.
You’ll find there are much less tourists compared to May and June. Although with the Easter holidays near the end of the month, it can get a but busier.
The Weather in April in Paris
In April, Paris begins to shake off the last chills of winter and welcomes the mild touch of spring.
Temperatures typically range from 8°C (46°F) in the mornings to 18°C (64°F) in the afternoons. In my experience it’s common for temperatures to hit 25°C (77°F) during warmer days.

Though the weather can be unpredictable, with sun, clouds, and rain all possible in a single day. Occasional rain showers are common, so I’d definitely advise bringing a travel umbrella.
As always, I’d recommend checking the weather a few days before you travel. Good weather is never guaranteed in France!
When does the Sunset?
The sun sets from around 8pm at the start of the month and at around 9pm at the end of the month.
Daylight Saving Time (DST) is used in France and in Europe. The clocks go forward at the end of March so by the time April comes round, the days are much longer compared to earlier on in the year.
What to Wear
Packing for Paris in April means preparing for variable spring weather.
Layers are essential—think light sweaters, long-sleeve shirts, and a medium-weight jacket or trench coat for cooler mornings and evenings.
A travel umbrella is a must, as rain showers are frequent.
If you’re planning on walking a lot, of course bring a pair of comfortable walking shoes.
Don’t forget sunglasses for the sunnier days. Dressing in layers keeps you comfortable and ready for any weather shift.
What to See & Do
Take a Stroll Along the River Seine
During the first few weeks of April, the Seine’s quayside trees awaken, filling the city centre with a sea of color.
The quay sides are now completely pedestrianised and it’s a lovely space to get away from the noise of the surrounding streets.
I’d recommend starting from Place de la Concorde and walking down to the eastern side of Ile Saint-Louis. It’s around 2 miles and will take you about 45 minutes. This will take you past the Louvre, past the Pont Neuf and Notre Dame.
The seasonal cafés on the Seine re-open in April and it’s the perfect spot to grab a glass of wine and watch the world go by. Check out my recommendations on the best bars on the River Seine.
Enjoy the City’s Cafés
The start of Spring brings better weather and with it, the city’s cafés and bars reopen their terraces.
If you’re lucky to experience warmer weather then it’s the perfect time to sit out on a terrace and take in the buzzing atmosphere.
Explore the Père Lachaise Cemetery
The Père Lachaise cemetery, in the north west of the city in the 20th arrondissement, is really underrated.
It might seem slightly morbid but the cemetery is just like a park. Spanning over 110 acres, it’s a huge green space that locals enjoy.
Many famous figures are buried in the cemetery including Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison.

Take a Picnic in the Buttes-Chaumont Park
Another hidden gem is the stunning Buttes-Chaumont park in the north of the city.
For me, it’s the best park in Paris. Unlike the majority, the Buttes-Chaumont has plenty of relief making it really visually interesting and great to exercise in.
There’s a man made lake with a towering central island in the middle (which is unfortunately currently closed for maintenance).
It’s a spot where you’ll find real Parisians relaxing and having picnics. Go to the Belleville area, pick up some food and a bottle of wine and spend a couple of hours relaxing in the park – you won’t regret it!
