If you’re living in Paris you have no doubt found it difficult to find real Mexican produce however there are some amazing Mexican grocery stores in Paris! Our guide has the ins and outs on the best spots to buy hot sauces, dried chillis and canned Mexican goods.
It’s also possible to buy fresh tomatillos and fresh serano and jalapeño peppers in Paris although unfortunately not all year round.
Where to buy Mexican Food in Paris
Some main-stream Mexican food (Old El Paso kits, canned mild-salsas, tortillas) is available to buy in French supermarkets but of course it’s expensive and not particularly great quality. Our list below has the best independent Mexican grocery stores in Paris.
In terms of eating out, you’re more likely to find Tex-Mex restaurants or Burrito joints in Paris than legitimate taquerias. Although that is changing and our Mexican restaurant guide has the best Mexican food spots to discover in the city.
La Esquinita
La Esquinta is a fantastic small Mexican grocery store in Paris located between the Sentier and Bonne Nouvelle metro stops in the city. It’s central location and close proximity to 3 different metro lines means it’s very convenient to get to.
The family who run La Esquinita are extremely friendly and also have an amazing Mexican restaurant next door. They stock a huge array of hot sauces, canned goods, dried chillis, Mexican beers and candy.
They even have a fridge with fresh Mexican cheese and, when in season, fresh tomatillos and chillis (I’ve personally bought Serranos, Jalapeños and Poblano peppers).

Mexicoeur stocks a wide range of Mexican food staples such as salsas, hot sauces and fresh Mexican cheese. But they also have an amazing array of traditional Mexican kitchen utensils, traditional clothes, household decorations and toys.

Where to find tomatillos & chillis in Paris
Unfortunately as there isn’t a huge Mexican community in Paris or indeed France, it’s very difficult to find fresh tomatillos and specific types of chillis in Paris.
La Esquinita (see above) do stock fresh tomatillos when in season (April-November in France) but they are not always available in these months. They do however always have a supply of canned tomatillos which work perfectly well for a Salsa Verde .
Specific types of Mexican chillis are again difficult to find in Paris. Most supermarkets stock green or red chillis that are grown in Morocco – these vary massively in heat and aren’t always great flavour-wise. You can normally find scotch-bonnet chillis in African shops in different areas of the city.
