Montmartre is one of the most charming areas to stay in Paris – but where are the best hotels? Well I’ve been living in Paris for over 8 years and I know the area very well. This guide has a round-up of the best hotels in Montmartre based on where I think you should stay.
The charming Montmartre neighbourhood was originally a village before it was swallowed up by the rapidly expanding city of Paris. Luckily it’s kept its village feel and makes it a great place to stay in Paris. Where’s best? Let’s begin with the best areas to stay in Montmartre.

Where to Stay in Montmartre
The Montmartre area is located to the north of the city on a large hill overlooking the city. The top of the hill is where you’ll find the main village including the famous Place du Tertre (where the artists are!) and the Sacre-Cœur.
The neighbour runs from the Abbesses metro station in the south to the Lamarck-Caulaincourt metro stop in the north.
You’ll find the oldest part (and where the majority of the sights are) on right on top of the hill. This is great to explore and offers incredible views but it does require climbing up a lot of stairs!
I’d recommend staying around Rue des Abbesses – it’s lively and pretty authentic. It’s connected via the metro on Line 12 and it’s half-way up the hill which means you won’t to do much walking.
My Favorite Hotels in Montmartre
Terrass Hotel
Terrass is a spectacular 4* hotel at the end of Rue des Abbesses and is right next to the Montmartre Cemetery. Their rooms are modern with a clean, minimalistic yet colourful decor and are on the larger side for Paris. If you go for their suites (up to 35m2!) you’ll have views over the city and even the Eiffel Tower.
One of the best parts of the hotel is their epic rooftop bar (on the top floor) which gives panoramic views over the city. It’s open to non-hotel guests so if you want a slightly more private experience, their hotel bar and restaurant is the place to be.
Hotel Le Chat Noir
The Hotel Le Chat Noir is a fantastic little 4* boutique hotel right next to the Moulin Rouge. As you’d imagine, this quirky little hotel has a running theme: the famous Chat Noir cabaret and its iconic artwork.
The theme runs throughout the rooms which vary in decor. They’re modern, plush and comfortable and of course very fun. Location? It’s right next to the Moulin Rouge and the Blanche metro stop. It gets lively at night but it’s completely safe and you’ll feel right in the middle of the action.
Le Relais Montmartre
Le Relais Montmartre is a fantastic 4* hotel and is ideally placed inbetween the awesome Rue Lepic and the Moulin Rouge. The hotel is traditionally French as it gets. The rooms have an older, authentic feel of the area yet have very modern features. The hotel itself is located down a side street that’s away from the all the noise – it’s surprisingly calm.
This hotel is perfect for those that want to be in central Montmartre yet not too far away from the city centre. It’s one of my top picks.
Hôtel Littéraire Marcel Aymé
If you’re after an authentic Montmartre experience then the Hôtel Littéraire Marcel Aymé is a great option. This 4* hotel is affiliated with Best Western but is on the ultra premium side of the brand. The literary themed hotel revolves around Marcel Aymé, a celebrated French novelist. Each room has a unique decor – it’s fun, modern and very of the area.
Again, the location is perfect. It’s a few minutes away from the Abbesses metro station and a few minutes walk down to the Moulin Rouge and the lovely Rue des Martyrs.
Ibis Paris Montmartre
The Ibis Montmartre hotel is the cheapest option in this list and perfect for those on a budget. Ibis are a 3* French budget chain of hotels that are always reliable. It’s located right next to the very pretty Montmartre cemetery and is only a 10 minute walk from the Abbesses metro station.
This hotel is certainly not the most modern option but it’s clean (and yes there’s AC) and decent for the price. It’s well located and you’re right next to Line 2 which gets you towards the Champs-Élysées quickly. This is the cheap and cheerful option!
