Our Favourite Cheap Bars in Paris
Paris can be eye-wateringly expensive with certain cafés in the city charging upwards of €12 for a not-so-great pint of lager or even €10 for a tiny glass of wine. It may be worth it if you’ve got a great view on a famous monument but what if you want something just a bit more reasonable? Our guide features our favourite bars are in no particular order.
Tip: Most terraces/cafés/bars will offer happy hours on weekdays (it’s best to ask before ordering) and sometimes, weekends.
Aux Folies
In the 11th arrondissement in the Belleville area you’ll find Aux Folies. It’s not hard to find, just up from the main crossroad, you’ll see a huge red neon sign above the bar. Extremely popular with the local youngsters, you’ll find a huge terrace filled with small tables and plastic chairs.
It’s a bar that is emblematic of the area – unpretentious, simple yet authentic. The service is lightning quick and although the drinks have become pricier in recent years, you’ll be looking at €5 for pint of lager and €3 for a glass of wine.

Liquiderie Bar
Maybe the most expensive bar in this list but still much cheaper than most, Liquiderie Bar is an awesome natural wine and craft beer spot in Belleville. It’s a real where-locals-go spot where you’ll feel like a true Parisian.
They have around 8 beers on tap with the cheapest micro-brewery IPA coming in at €6.5. Wine by the glass is €5 but I’d recommend getting a bottle which starts at €29. Yes it’s not the cheapest but you’re getting really good small producer natural wine that won’t give you a headache the next morning. They’ve also got a small tapas menu including saucisson, terrine and rillettes. Finally it’s worth mentioning that they’ve got a separate wine shop in the 11th as well – towards Place de la République.

A fantastic little bar with 70s style neon lighting, 50s era art-deco features surrounding an incredible zinc bar. A real neighbourhood bar/café, it’s another super local spot with a great atmosphere. Pints come in at €4 and you’ll be looking at €3 for their cheapest glass of wine. Le Sully
Le Sully is a cracking bar that’s barely changed in 7 years. Super friendly atmosphere and service with a quirky vibe, it’s become a real institution of Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis. The bar’s deco is super cool with red leather banquette lining one side and the old retro themed bar on the other. Happy hour pints are €3.5 and shots are €3.

Chez Georges
Chez Georges is an awesome, authentic wine bar in the 6th arrondissement that is a very rare find in the area. Started in 1957, the bar retains its old-school charm with the walls adorned with vintage posters.
There’s an underground cellar section for seating and they often host live jazz evenings. The bar predominately serves wine although they now have a great craft lager on tap. Their house red and white comes from Bordeaux and is super cheap at €3.5 for a generous glass and a bottle is €16. They also have cheese & charcuterie platters for €12.

Onze Bar
Back to the 11th arrondissement on the popular Rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud you’ll find Onze Bar. An incredibly popular spot with locals and nearby office workers, the bar is another mega cheap gem. A word of warning however, it does get really busy on weekends and especially Friday afterwork thanks to their mega happy hour deals (€4 for a pint of lager, €4.5 for a mojito and €3 for a glass of chardonnay). They’ve also got a solid tapas offering – tortilla, fries and cheese boards which are generous and well priced.

Les Cascades
Les Cascades is a ‘literary’ bistro/bar which is typical of the 20th arrondissement. It’s friendly, unpretentious and is incredibly popular with the younger locals. The literary part of the bar comes from the fact that it’s historically been a hang-out for local liberal-art students. You’ll also find a vast quantity of books lining the shelves opposite the bar. Happy hour prices are great with pints coming in a €3.5 and a large (25cl) glass of wine at €6. They also have snacks (charcuterie and cheese) and serve proper dishes if you’re hungry.

Just off the (in)famous rue Saint-Denis in the 2nd arrondissement is La Cordonnerie – an awesome pub style bar with a great happy hour. With pints at €3.5 and cocktails starting at €5.5 during happy hours it gets seriously busy. The staff are extremely nice and they’ll never turn down a shot.
